Sophomore John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) of the University of Scranton men's swimming team had a big weekend at the Diamond City Invitational, and for his efforts, he was named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday.
On the weekend, Fimmano helped the Royals finish third overall in the Diamond City Invitational, as Scranton registered 557.5 total points for the weekend.
Fimmano had his best performances on the weekend on Sunday, as he captured a pair of individual events.
First, in the 100-freestyle, Fimmano was victorious after hitting the wall in 48.83. He then continued his winning ways later in the day in the 200-butterfly, capturing that event after finishing in 2:01.84 (which was almost five seconds better than his nearest competitor).
Fimmano also swam a leg on three relay teams, each of which finished in the top three in their respective events. The highest finish for a relay team in which Fimmano swam a leg on was the 200-freestyle, which finished second overall in a time of 1:28.40.
Fimmano and the rest of the University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1, as they travel to Ramapo for their final meet of the 2018 portion of their schedule. Action gets underway at 2 p.m.
