Results

DALLAS, Pa. - The University of Scranton men' swimming & diving team left no doubt in a tri-dual meet on Friday evening at Misericordia, as the Royals rolled past the host Cougars (180-68) and Marywood (193-60).

With the pair of victories, the Royals moved to 6-3 on the year in dual meets.

Action got underway for Scranton on the night with a victory in the 400-medley relay, as the team of senior Michael Ramsthaler (Florham Park, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood), and sophomores Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) and Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) finished in 3:38.34 to take the event by almost four seconds.

In individual action, Scranton swimmers won the first two events contested, as freshman John Cannilla (Florham Park, N.J./Oratory Prep) edged out teammate and fellow sophomore John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) with a time of 10:53.70 to capture the 1000-freestyle. This was followed by a victory in the 200-freestyle by freshman Evan Morgan (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) in 1:52.27.

In the 100-breaststroke, Quigley added an individual victory after hitting the wall in 1:01.28, while senior Chris Whalen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) collected a win in the 200-butterfly in a time of 2:09.39. Senior Dan Muenkel (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington) was able to take the 200-backstroke in 2:10.38, while Donnelly added an individual victory in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:15.62.

The final long-distance freestyle event saw freshman Evan Morgan (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) win in a time of 5:09.23 in the 500-free, while Quigley became a two-time winner in the individual events with a victory in the 200-butterfly (58.29). In the final individual event, Mills finished off a dominant effort by the Royals with a win in 2:04.79.

The final event of the night saw Scranton once again control the competition, as they captured the 200-freestyle relay in a time of 1:30.71. On the team was Morgan, Whalen, Quigley and junior Gregory Spicka (Morris Plains, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).

The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, January 26 at Susquehanna beginning at 1 p.m. More updates could be made to the Royals' schedule later this week. Stay tuned to athletics.scranton.edu for further information.
