University of Scranton director of athletics Dave Martin announced on Tuesday that Chris Brown has been named head men's and women's swimming & diving coach and aquatics director.
Brown comes to Scranton from Hartwick College, where he served as a full-time assistant coach for the men's and women's swimming & diving programs since July 2018. Brown brings over five years of coaching experience to the Royals program, as he has served as both an assistant and head coach at the high school, collegiate and club levels in his short career to date.
"I'm thrilled to be the next head swimming and diving coach and aquatics director at The University of Scranton," said Brown. "This program has a tremendous tradition, and I plan to build off of the recent success to take Scranton Swimming and Diving to the next level. I would like to thank Director of Athletics Dave Martin, Vice President of Student Life Bobby Davis, and everyone involved in the search for providing me with this great opportunity. I'm very excited to get started."
"We're excited to bring Chris on board here at the University," Martin said. "In a short period of time, Chris has put together an impressive list of accomplishments as both a head coach and assistant at the Division III level that will help our teams be successful both in and out of the pool. We're very fortunate to have him join us as our men's and women's swimming & diving coach and aquatics director, and we look forward to Chris building on the tradition and success of our programs."
Before moving onto Hartwick, Brown was an assistant coach for one year (2017-18) at both Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth, Pa. and the Blue Eagle Swim Team, also based in Nazareth.
From August of 2015 through May of 2017, Brown was the head swim & dive coach/aquatics director at SUNY Cobleskill where he led the Tigers programs to unprecedented success.
While at Cobleskill, Brown led the men's swimming & diving team to a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championship in 2017, while also leading the women's team to back-to-back top-three finishes at the NEAC Championships in 2016 and 2017.
In two seasons, SUNY Cobleskill swimmers broke 21 individual and relay school records, while Brown also coached an NCAA Division III Diving Regional qualifier in each of his two seasons at the school. In 2017 alone, Brown guided 16 student-athletes to NEAC All-Conference honors, as well.
Brown got his coaching career started across town at Marywood University, where he served as an assistant coach for the Pacers' men's and women's swimming & diving program for one season (2014-15). He joined the coaching ranks after a stellar career in the pool at Marywood, whereas a student-athlete he held four school records, was a two-time coaches/MVP award winner and was the men's team captain in 2013-14.
A Landmark Conference Academic All-Conference selection in 2014, Brown went on to earn both his undergraduate (Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology in 2014) and masters (Master of Science in Biotechnology in 2015) from Marywood.
Brown takes over a Scranton men's and women's swimming & diving program that has had great success over the last few seasons, as both teams have placed third at the Landmark Conference Championships in each of the last two seasons.
