Junior Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) of the men's swimming & diving led the way for the Royals in their season-opening win over Marywood on Sunday afternoon, and for his efforts, he was named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week on Monday for the period ending Oct. 20, 2019.
For Mills, this marks the first time in his career as a Royals swimmer that he has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
On Sunday, Mills was able to capture two individual events with ease, taking the 50-freestyle with a time 22.61 and the 100-breaststroke in 1:00.54. Mills also swam anchor on the victorious 200-medley relay team that hit the wall in 1:41.56, swimming his split in 21.82.
With Mills' day, the men's swimming & diving team was able to coast by Marywood in the dual meet, taking a 150-42 decision over the host Pacers.
The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Catholic for a dual meet against their Landmark Conference rivals. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
