SCRANTON - In their home opener in the Byron Center for the year, The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team rolled past visiting Juniata (185-38) and Goucher (200-48) in a tri-dual match Saturday.
With the victories, the Royals moved to 4-1 on the young season in dual meets.
The afternoon kicked off on the right foot for Scranton in the 400-medley relay, as the Royals' "A" team hit the wall in 3:43.50 to take the event by over seven seconds.
In individual events, junior Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) won two events, as he captured the 100-butterfly (56.19) and 100-breaststroke (1:00.87), while senior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) also won two events on the day in the 50-breaststroke (28.41) and 500-freestyle (5:40.46).
Meanwhile, junior Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) also won two events on the afternoon, taking the 50-freestyle (22.29) and 50-butterfly (24.26) to round out the two-time winners on the day for Scranton.
Other winners for the Royals in individual action included:
- Freshman Kyle Kovalenko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) in the 200-freestyle (1:53.90)
- Senior Stas Postowski (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joe's Prep) in the 50-backstroke (28.96)
- Junior John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) in the 100-freestyle (49.79)
In the final event of the afternoon, the Royals continued a familiar theme, as they captured the 200-yard freestyle, with Scranton's "A' team taking the event with a time of 1:28.77
The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 9, as they host Dickinson at the Byron Center in a dual meet. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
