Men's Swimming and Diving Leads Team Standings After Day One of Diamond City Invitational

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's swimming team won three relay events and two individual races as the Royals sit at the top of the team standings with 866 points after Day One of the Diamond City Invitational at the Wyoming Valley CYC in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Junior Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) captured the 200 IM for the Royals with a time of 1:59.96, while freshman Kyle Kovalenko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) took home the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:00.92. Kovalenko finished second behind Mills in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.38.

In the 200 free relay, the quartet of junior Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North), freshman Michael Krumenacker (Ambler, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep), junior John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) and Mills cruised home in 1:27.87 to kick off the event for Scranton. Mills, Donnelly, senior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Krumenacker won the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:37.59 and the quartet of Mills, Donnelly, Quigley and Fimmano captured the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:39.64.

Scranton leads the team standings with 866 points and a slight seven-point edge over Albright who sits second with 859 points. SUNY Oneonta is currently in third place with 758.5 points.

Fimmano and Donnelly finished second and third in the 50 freestyle with times of 22.34 and 22.40 respectively.

The 2019 Diamond City Invitational resumes on Sunday at 10 a.m.
