WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's swimming and diving team finished third at the Diamond City Invitational that was held over the weekend at the Wyoming Valley CYC in Wilkes-Barre.
Junior Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was one of the standouts for the Royals on Sunday as he finished second in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:59.18, just behind Lycoming's Jake Booth who won the event in 1:58.81.
Scranton finished third in the 11-team event with 1,107 points. Albright won the team title with 1,217.5 points and SUNY Oneonta took second just ahead of the Royals with 1,116.5 points.
The relay quartet of Mills, junior John Cannilla (Florham Park, N.J./Oratory Prep), freshman Michael Krumenacker (Ambler, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and freshman Kyle Kovalenko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished third in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:22.80. Krumenacker finished fifth in a closely contested 100 freestyle race with a time of 49.73 as the top five finishers all finished within a second of each other.
Mills and Kovalenko each won individual events on Day One of the meet on Saturday for the Royals, while Scranton also captured three relay races on the day.
The Royals will return to the pool in two weeks at the Ranger Invitational that will be hosted by Drew University on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7.
