Goucher won five of six singles matches to overcome a 3-0 deficit following doubles play on Saturday night and defeat The University of Scranton 5-4 in a Landmark Conference men's tennis match at the Birchwood Tennis Club. The Gophers improve to 15-3 (2-0 Landmark) on the year while the Royals slip to 5-3 (0-1 Landmark).
Scranton got off to a great start on Saturday by winning all three doubles matches.
Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at the top doubles pairing while Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) won by the same score line at #2 doubles.
Goucher overcame the three-point deficit by winning five of the six singles contests. The Gophers were victorious in flights #1 thru #5 with Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery) giving Scranton it's lone win in singles play with a 6-4, 2-6, (10-8) triumph at #6 singles.
Scranton will take on Catholic tomorrow in a Landmark Conference match starting at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood.
