The University of Scranton men's tennis team celebrated its Senior Day with a dominant performance on Saturday at the Royal Courts, blanking Moravian 9-0 in a Landmark Conference match. The Royals boost their record to 7-3 (2-1 Landmark) on the season with the win while dropping the Greyhounds to 3-7 (0-4 Landmark).
Prior to Saturday's match, Scranton honored seniors Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East), Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep), and Emmett Ryan (Manchester, Mass./Canterbury School).
McGurrin, Aksu, Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) went on to win a pair of matches each to lead the Royals to the victory.
In doubles action, McGurrin and Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) won at the top pairing, 8-4, while Harkins and Ochalski scored an 8-1 victory at #2 doubles. Aksu and Ryan closed out the doubles' sweep with an 8-1 triumph at the third flight to give Scranton a 3-0 advantage in the match.
Tarquin McGurrin won his second match of the day at #1 singles, 6-3, 7-5 while Ochalski picked up his second victory at #2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Harkins won in straight sets at #3 and #4 singles respectively.
Aksu's second win of the day was 6-2, 6-2 triumph at #5 singles while Connor Lemieux (Guilford, Conn./The Gunnery) rounded out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #6 singles.
Scranton will travel to Elizabethtown on Sunday for a Landmark Conference match starting at 11:30 p.m. The match will be played at the Wisehaven Tennis Center in York, Pa.
