After leading The University of Scranton men's tennis team to a 9-0 win at Elmira on Saturday in their spring season opener, sophomore Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) was named the Landmark Conference's Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 24 on Monday.
For McGurrin, this marks the third time in his career he has been named the Landmark's Athlete of the Week. It is also the second time on the season he's earned the honor, as he nabbed it during the fall campaign on Sept. 17.
In the Elmira match, McGurrin got the contest started with an 8-0 win at number one doubles with partner senior Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central). Then, in singles action, McGurrin won his match in the number one spot of the lineup in straight sets (6-2, 6-3), as the Royals rolled to a shutout win.
On the year, McGurrin has yet to lose a singles match, posting a 5-0 mark. Meanwhile, he and Ochalski have also yet to drop a double contest, going 5-0 overall on the short season, as well.
McGurrin and the rest of The University of Scranton men's tennis team, returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Pratt for a 12 p.m. start.
