BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team snapped a four-match losing skid with a 9-0 victory over Pratt in non-conference action on Sunday.
The Royals, who dropped just six games in the nine matches on the day, leveled their record at 4-4 on the season while the Cannoneers remain winless in four contests.
Seniors Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central), Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley), Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), and sophomore Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) were all two-match winners for Scranton on the day.
Scranton jumped out to 3-0 advantage by sweeping doubles play on Sunday.
Ochalski and McGurrin teamed up for an 8-1 victory at no. 1 doubles, the same score by which Swope and freshman Christopher Kocon (Mountain Top, Pa./Holy Redeemer) won at no 2. doubles. At the third flight, Harkins and freshman Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) rolled to an 8-0 victory.
In singles competition, McGurrin won at the top pairing, 6-0, 6-1 while Ochalski posted a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at no. 2 singles.
Swope also won with a 6-1, 6-0 score line at no. 3 singles while Harkins won in straight sets at no. 4 singles.
At the fifth flight, freshman Daniel Scala (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win while freshman Adrian Maggiani (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) earned a straight set victory at no. 6 singles.
Scranton will open Landmark Conference play on Saturday at Catholic. First serves are scheduled for 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
