Men’s Tennis Bounces Back, Takes 7-2 Landmark Conference Win over Susquehanna

SCRANTON - After dropping their last two Landmark Conference matches, The University of Scranton men's tennis team bounced back on Saturday, as they controlled Susquehanna in a 7-2 win at Royal Courts.

With the win, the Royals moved to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in the Landmark Conference.

First, in doubles action, Scranton was victorious at the top two spots in the line-up to take a 2-1 lead on Susquehanna entering singles.

In the first flight, sophomore Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and senior Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) rolled to an 8-0 win, while at number two, graduate student Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East) and senior Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) coasted to an 8-3 win to give Scranton the lead entering singles.

In singles, the Royals won five of the six matches contested, all of which in straight sets, to take the convincing victory.

McGurrin (6-0, 7-5 at number one), Ochalski (6-2, 6-2 at number two), Harkins (6-0, 6-0 at number four) and Aksu (6-1, 6-0 at number five) were all two-time winners on the day for Scranton, while senior Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) finished off the victory for the Royals with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third singles flight.

The University of Scranton men's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, as they host Juniata in another home Landmark Conference match at Royal Courts. Action gets underway at 12 p.m.
