HAVERFORD, Pa. - In their final match of the 2018-19 regular season, The University of Scranton men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision at Haverford on Saturday.
With the loss, Scranton dropped to 10-7 overall for the regular season, while Haverford improved to 13-7 with the win.
On the afternoon, the Royals were only able to collect a pair of victories in singles, as Haverford swept doubles action to take a 3-0 lead into the singles flights. There, Haverford won four of the six matches contested to win the match.
However, senior Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at number two singles, and fellow senior Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) continued his stellar play with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) win at number four.
Harkins, who has now won 13 straight matches, now has 56 singles victories at Scranton, putting him one win away from matching the all-time record for most wins in a career in program history.
The Royals now look forward to the 2019 Landmark Conference Semifinals, which will be held at Royal Courts on Tuesday. Scranton will enter the playoffs as the number two seed and will host third-seeded Juniata in a match that will begin at 4 p.m.
