Men's Tennis Drops Road Match to Ramapo, 6-3

MAHWAH, N.J. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to the Ramapo Roadrunners in a dual match at The Athletic Center Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon in Mahwah.

The Royals captured the No. 1 doubles match as junior Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep)/freshman Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) picked up a thrilling 8-7 victory over Ramapo's Alex Kogut and Kevin Ilinets, but the Roadrunners took an early 2-1 lead with victories in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

McGurrin rallied to pick up a three-set victory (3-6, 6-2, 10-6) over Kogut in No. 1 singles and improved to 5-0 in singles play on the young season.

Freshman Nathan Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) got the best of Ilinets with a three-set win (3-6, 6-3, 12-10) at No. 3 singles, while O'Mara dropped a 6-3, 5-7, 6-10 heartbreaker to the Roadrunners' Joshua Halpern in No. 4 singles action.

Scranton returns to the courts at the ITA Northeast Region Championships that will be hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges from Friday, Sept. 27 – Sunday, Sept. 29.
