Men's Tennis Puts Forth Strong Effort at ITA Northeast Region Championships

GENEVA, N.Y. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team had a pair of players advance to the second round at the ITA Northeast Region Championships that were hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges over the weekend.

Junior Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over RIT's Jake Wolicki in the opening round of matches before dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to NYU's Alex Yang in the second round. McGurrin dropped a tough 8-7 (7-5) consolation match to Akul Telluri of TCNJ.

Freshman Nathan Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nazareth's Tommy Daviau to advance to the second round where he fell to Justin Wain of TCNJ. Tauber captured an 8-2 victory over St. John Fisher's Jordan O'Connell in a consolation match.

McGurrin and Tauber dropped a doubles match to Mathew Yee and Nicolas Demaria of Vassar.
