Senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) of The University of Scranton men's track & field team is enjoying an outstanding indoor season for the Royals, highlighted by a pair of top-10 finishes on Saturday at the S.U. Challenge. For his efforts, he has been named the Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
On Saturday at Susquehanna, Merli finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.38 meters. He followed that performance up by posting a mark of 12.24 meters in the long jump to tie for ninth in the competition.
Merli also ran a leg in the 4x200 meter relay as the Royals finished seventh in the race with a time of 1:42.87.
For the season, Merli now ranks third in the Landmark Conference in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump following Saturday's season-best marks.
Last season, Merli finished fifth in both events at the Landmark Conference Championships.
Merli and the Royals will return to action on Sunday at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson College. The competition will start at 10 a.m. in Carlisle, Pa.
