Senior Mark Merli (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) of The University of Scranton track & field team is enjoying a strong indoor season and continued that success with a trio of top-four finishes on Sunday at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson College.  For his efforts, he has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.

Merli, who was named the Landmark Conference Field Athlete of the Week last Monday, excelled again on Sunday to lead the Royals to a third place finish out of eight teams at the DuCharme Invitational.

He finished as the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 6.24 meters and fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.51 meters.

Merli, whose effort in the triple jump was his best of the season, also recorded a third place result in the 55 meter dash, crossing the stripe in 6.99 seconds.

For the season, he ranks third in the Landmark Conference in the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.38 meters while his performance in the triple jump on Sunday places him fifth in the conference.

Merli and the Royals will compete in the Mark Denault Invitational on Saturday at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.  The meet will be Scranton's final tune-up before the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships which will be held on February 23 at Susquehanna University.
