Sophomore Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) of The University of Scranton men's track & field team enjoyed an outstanding performance in 800 meter run on Saturday at Susquehanna's Jim Taylor Invitational. For his efforts, he has been honored as The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Kinback finished second out of 60 runners in the 800 on Saturday, clocking a career-best time of 1:55.11, which ranks 19th in all of NCAA Division III this spring.
His mark is also the second-best in the Landmark Conference for the outdoor season. He trails Moravian's Justin Beasley-Turner by just .31 seconds in the event this spring.
Kinback improved his time in the 800 by 1.69 seconds from his opening week effort at West Chester's Golden Ram Invitational in which he also placed second.
On Saturday, Kinback also ran a leg for Scranton in the 4x400 meter relay as the Royals finished 18th by clocking in at 3:41.60.
During the indoor season, Kinback finished third in the 800 at the Landmark Conference Championships with a time of 1:59.37. He also helped the Royals place sixth in the 4x400 meter relay with a mark of 3:43.88.
As a freshmen, he earned Second Team All-Landmark Conference honors during the indoor season with a runner-up finish in the 800.
Kinback and the Royals will be back in action this Friday at the NEPA Challenge hosted by Keystone. The competition starts at 3 p.m. in La Plume, Pa.
