Sophomore Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) of The University of Scranton men's track & field team enjoyed an outstanding outdoor season this spring, starring in the 800 meter run. The Landmark Conference champion in the event, he was recently lauded with United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors.
Kinback won the conference championship in the 800 with a season-best time of 1:53.10 at the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Goucher on May 4-5. His mark, which was a new school and personal record, was the fastest in the conference this season, and was also the fourth-best in the Mideast region this season.
Kinback finished the season just .03 seconds behind the region's third-fastest time, .12 seconds behind the second-quickest mark, and .52 seconds behind the top mark posted by Stevenson's Iddriss, who ran a region-best time of 1:52.58 on May 15.
Nationally, Kinback finished the year with the 42nd fastest time in the 800.
In addition to his first place finish at the conference championships, Kinback was the runner-up in the 800 in four different meets during the spring season.
Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of the top-3 ranked relay teams.
