Director of Athletics Dave Martin announced Thursday that Ryan Pericozzi has been hired as head coach of The University of Scranton's track and field programs, effective September 9.

Pericozzi will join the Royals program with over five years of collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA Division III level, spending the last four seasons at Fredonia State as an assistant track & field coach.

"I'm extremely excited to get the opportunity to lead the track & field program at The University of Scranton," said Pericozzi. "I'm looking forward to continuing to grow this young program and push them to the top of the Landmark Conference. I would like to thank Dave Martin, [Vice President for Student Life] Bobby Davis and the rest of the hiring committee for this opportunity. I'm very excited, and I can't wait to get started."

"We are excited to have a coach with the experience that Ryan possesses," said Martin. "His experience as both a coach and a student-athlete at the NCAA Division III level make him an excellent choice to continue to build and grow our already successful track & field programs here at The University of Scranton."

At Fredonia State, Pericozzi coached sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and combined athletes in the Blue Devils' program. He was also responsible for all aspects of recruiting and assisted in the implementation of scheduling, logistics, and fundraising.

While on staff at Fredonia, Pericozzi was a two-time finalist for the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year award. In all, eight school records fell under Pericozzi's watch, as he guided one student-athlete to NCAA Division III All-American honors twice (Indoor '16 and Outdoor '17) during his time in the program.

Before beginning at Fredonia, Pericozzi coached at his alma mater SUNY Cortland for one season.

While on the Red Dragons staff, he worked with the training and development of hurdlers and jumpers, and also assisted with sprinters and pole vaulters. He supervised the strength and conditioning workouts for the entire program and took part in the recruitment of pole vaulters, hurdlers, and multi-athletes.

In 2013-14, Pericozzi began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Lancaster (N.Y.) High School following a decorated career as a field athlete at SUNY Cortland from 2009 through 2012.

While at Cortland, Pericozzi qualified as an NCAA Division III finalist in the pole vault five times (Indoor and Outdoor) from 2009 through 2012. He is the former SUNYAC indoor pole vault record holder, a past SUNYAC long jump and pole vault champion, and the 2008 New York State Public High School Athletic Association pole vault champ. He was also named the 2009 SUNYAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference championships, as well.

Pericozzi received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Fitness Development from SUNY Cortland in 2013.
