DALLAS, Pa. – Senior Schuyler Smith (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) and freshman Zachary Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to lead The University of Scranton men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Cougar Classic on Saturday morning at Misericordia University.
Smith finished the 8,000-meter course in 29:08.76 with Mead right behind in 29:12.09. The duo led five Scranton runners in the top 11 as the Royals finished with 38 points, trailing only the host Misericordia, which won the team title with 17 points.
Sophomore Zachary Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was the third Scranton runner across the line, finishing in 29:33.47 to place ninth. Freshman Jack Patwell (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) was 10th in 29:36.03, while senior Nick Peragine (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) finished 11th in 29:48.52.
The men's cross country team will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when the Royals run in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
