MULLICA HILL, N.J. – Junior Eric Bartlett (Sayville, N.J./Sayville) was the first runner across the line for The University of Scranton men's cross country team on Saturday at the Inter-Regional Border Battle at Rowan University, helping the Royals finish 22nd.
Bartlett completed the 8,000-meter course in 27:23.0 to finish 133rd, two second off his best 8,000-meter time this season. His effort helped the Royals finish with 656 points. Haverford took the team title with 29 points, easily outrunning second-place Carnegie Mellon (62 points).
Sophomore Zachary Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was Scranton's second runner across the line, finishing 151st in a time of 27:38.5. Freshman Jack Patwell (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) was one spot behind with a time of 27:39.3.
Senior Schuyler Smith (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) came across in 164th with a time of 27:50.5 while fellow senior Nicholas Peragine (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) rounded out the team's top five in 164th with a time of 27:58.2.
The men's cross country team will now begin preparation for the Landmark Conference championships on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Standing Stone Golf Club in Huntingdon, Pa.
