NEWVILLE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's cross country team placed three runners in the top 120 to finish 25th at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships at Big Spring High School on Saturday morning.
Sophomore Eric Bartlett (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) capped a strong finish to the season by leading Scranton with a 72nd-place finish. He completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:50.6, a career-best for that distance.
Senior Schuyler Smith (Towanda, Pa./Towanda) was next across the line for the Royals, finishing 108th in 27:17.5, also a career best at 8,000 meters. Freshman Jack Patwell (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) was close behind in 111th with a time of 27:20.7, also a personal record.
Senior Nick Peragine (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) finished 174th in 28:10.2, and sophomore Zachary Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) rounded out the team's top five in 177th with a time of 28:11.9.
