Bartlett, Baldwin Lead Men’s Cross Country In Season Opener

DALLAS, Pa. – Juniors Eric Bartlett (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and Chris Baldwin (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) placed in the top 10 to help The University of Scranton men's cross country team finish third at the season-opening Misericordia Invitational on Friday evening at Misericordia University.

Bartlett completed the 5,000-meter course in 17:31.0 to finish eighth while Baldwin was right behind in ninth with a time of 17:35.3. Their efforts helped the Royals finish with 56 points, just two behind second-place Misericordia. Lebanon Valley finished first with 27 points.

Freshman Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) was the third Royal across the line, finishing 12th in 17:44.9. Sophomore Jack Patwell (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) was 13th in 17:46.1 while junior Zach Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished 14th in 17:47.4 to round out the team's top five.

Two other Royals earned top-20 finishes – sophomore Zachary Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) was 17th in 18:01.4 and sophomore Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) finished 18th in 18:01.4.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they run in the LVC Dutchmen XC Invite at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa. at 11 a.m.
