Junior Eric Bartlett (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) of The University of Scranton men's cross country team is off to a strong start this season, posting his second top-10 finish this past weekend. As a result, he has been named the University's Athlete of the Week.
Bartlett finished sixth at the Dutchmen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 8, leading the Royals to a strong third-place finish among 15 teams. He ran the 8,000-meter course in 27:00.71, just 10 seconds behind his career best for that distance. The sixth-place finish was also the highest of his career.
The Dutchmen Invitational, which was hosted by Lebanon Valley College, was run at Union Canal Tunnel Park in Lebanon, Pa., the same site as the Landmark Conference championships later this season.
That effort came just eight days after Bartlett finished eighth in the season-opening Misericordia Invitational on Aug. 31. He also led Scranton to a third-place finish in that event, as well.
Bartlett and the Royals will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they run in the Cougar Classic at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa.
