LEBANON, Pa. – Junior Zach Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished 10th to lead The University of Scranton men's cross country team at the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday at Union Canal Tunnel Park.
Gutekunst's top-10 finish helped Scranton finish fourth with 93 points. Elizabethtown finished with 44 points to take the team title, edging Juniata by a single point. Moravian finished third with 61 points.
Gutekunst picked up the third top-10 finish of his career and first at the Landmark Conference Championships. He completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:42.90, a career-best at that distance by 38 seconds.
Junior Eric Bartlett (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) gave the Royals a second top-20 finish by placing 13th with a time of 26:58.71, a career-best for 8,000 meters by two seconds.
Junior Chris Baldwin (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was the third Scranton runner across the line, finishing 21st in a time of 27:34.80, less than a second off his career best at 8,000 meters. Freshman Sean Connolly (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate H.S.) was fourth for Scranton, finishing 24th in 27:48.08, a personal best by 31 seconds.
Freshman John Thomas Clark (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) rounded out the team's top five by finishing 26th in a time of 27:53.09, a personal best by 26 seconds.
The Royals finished in the top four at the conference championships for the third straight season. They will now have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 10, at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.
