LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The University of Scranton men's cross country team posted a 20th place finish at the Inter-Regional Border Battle that was hosted by Rowan University at Gloucester County DREAM Park on Saturday.
Senior Zach Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was the top finisher for the Royals in 70th place as he completed the 8,000 meter course in a personal-best time of 25:50.3, nearly 10 seconds faster than his previous personal-best. Junior Jack Patwell (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) registered a personal-best time of his own at 26:35.3 to finish in 127th place.
Sophomore Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) finished in 147th place with a time of 26:48.9, while freshmen Liam Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) and Daniel Finning (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) rounded out the team's top five in 155th and 156th place with times of 26:55.6 and 26.58.9.
The Royals finished in 20th place with 575 points. Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 51 points and Patrick Watson of Stevenson won the individual title in a time of 24:00.1.
Scranton returns to the course for the Landmark Conference Championships that will be held in Colmar Manor, Md. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
