BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's cross country team closed out the fall season with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem on Saturday.
The Royals finished with 419 points in the event which featured 51 teams, while Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 55 points. Patrick Watson of Stevenson won the individual title as he completed the 8,000 meter course in 24:24.4.
Senior Zach Gutekunst (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was the top finisher for Scranton in 41st place with a time of 25:57.2 and sophomore Shane McKeon (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) finished in 51st place in a personal-best time of 26:10.1.
Freshman Daniel Finning (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), freshman Liam Mead (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) and junior Matt Kinback (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) all finished within two seconds of each other in 27:00.5, 27:01.5 and 27:02.5 in 108th, 109th and 110th place to round out the team's top five.
