CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Scranton softball team had a big afternoon on Wednesday at Hancock Park, as the Royals knocked off both Gallaudet (10-0 in five innings) and RPI (4-2).
With the victories, the Royals improved to 4-3 overall on the year, and are now winners of their last four games.
In their first game of the afternon against Gallaudet, Scranton opened a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and never looked back, as senior pitcher Emily Simon (Freehold, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) earned her first win of the season after tossing four innings of shutout softball.
In the win, Scranton also scored seven runs over the last two innings to run-rule Gallaudet.
Against RPI, a three-run home run by senior Shannon Stricker (Morrisville, Pa./Conwell Egan) with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning was the difference, as Scranton rallied to take their second game of the afternoon. Entering the bottom of the inning, the Royals were down 2-0 in the contest, as well.
Once Scranton took the lead in the RPI game, they never looked back, as junior pitcher Morgan Rentzheimer (Laurys Station, Pa./Parkland) earned her third win of the week in the victory.
The University of Scranton softball team will wrap up their Spring Break trip in Florida on Thursday, playing two more games. First, the Royals will take on MCLA at 3:30 p.m., then Dallas in their final game of the trip at 6 p.m.
