Freshman Jennifer Sweeney (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) of The University of Scranton softball team was outstanding in the circle in three appearances for the Royals last week. For her efforts, she has been named the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Sweeney led Scranton to three wins, giving up just six hits and striking out 17 batters in 15.0 innings of work. The freshman, who allowed just one extra-base hit on the week, posted a 0.47 ERA on the week while opponents batted just .115 against her.
In a 6-5 win over Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday, Sweeney pitched six innings and allowed just three hits and only one earned run while striking out five batters to pick up the win.
On Wednesday, Sweeney struck out four batters in just two innings without allowing a hit as the Royals combined for their first no-hitter since 2011 in a five-inning, 8-0 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
She then capped her week by twirling a complete game three-hitter on Thursday to lead Scranton to a 4-1 victory over UMass-Boston, striking out eight batters while surrendering one unearned run.
For the season, Sweeney has made five appearances in the circle and sports a 1.21 ERA with three complete games. In 29.0 innings of work, she has struck out 26 batters while hold opponents to a .194 batting average.
Sweeney and the Royals will open their Landmark Conference slate on Saturday at Susquehanna starting at 1:00 p.m.
