Jennifer Sweeney (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) continued her outstanding rookie season last week, leading the University of Scranton softball team to a 5-1 week as the Royals clinched a berth in the Landmark Conference playoffs. For her efforts, she has been named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week.
Sweeney batted .588 in Scranton's six games last week, collecting 10 hits including three home runs and one double. She also scored nine runs and totaled nine RBI as the Royals won five of their six games including a sweep of Landmark foe Drew on Saturday that guaranteed Scranton a spot in the postseason.
Sweeney had hits in five of the Royals' six games including four multi-hit performances.
Sweeney also three games in the circle for Scranton, going 2-1 on the week while striking out 15 batters in 15.1 innings of work. She toss four scoreless innings in a 7-0, six-inning win over Keystone on Tuesday and capped the week with a complete game effort in a 5-4 victory over Drew on Saturday.
For the season, Sweeney is batting a team-leading .407 with nine home runs and 25 RBI, both team-highs. In the circle, she sports a 12-2 record with a Landmark Conference-best 1.46 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 91.1 innings pitched.
This week's honor is the second time this spring that Sweeney has been honored by the Landmark Conference as she was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on April 9.
Sweeney and the Royals are back in action this afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against King's starting at 4:00 p.m. on Magis Field.
