Sweeney Repeats as Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week
Jennifer Sweeney

Freshman Jennifer Sweeney (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) continued her outstanding rookie season both at the plate and in the circle over the final week of the regular season for The University of Scranton softball team, leading the Royals to a 7-3 record over the last 10 games.  For her performance, she has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.

Sweeney batted .419 with 13 hits including two doubles and one home run on the week.  She also drove in nine runs and scored six times while hitting safely in nine of Scranton's 10 games on the week.  Sweeney went 4-for-7 with a home runs, a double, and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep of King's on Monday to highlight her strong week at the plate.

Sweeney also went 4-1 in five pitching starts and broke Scranton's single-season record with her 16th victory of the season in an 8-6 win over DeSales on Sunday.  She also took a no-hitter against 6th ranked Moravian into the seventh inning on Saturday, settling for a three-hitter in a 3-1 victory over the Greyhounds.  Sweeney struck out 22 batters in her five pitching appearances on the week.

This spring, Sweeney is batting .410 with 50 hits including 10 home runs and nine doubles.  She also paces the Royals with 34 RBI and has scored 28 runs.  She leads the Landmark Conference in home runs and RBI and is second in slugging percentage.

In the circle, she sports a 16-3 record with a 1.84 ERA while striking out 89 batters in 125.1 innings pitched.  Sweeney has tossed 13 complete games while limiting opponents to just a .207 batting average against.  She leads the Landmark Conference in wins and innings pitched, is second in ERA, and third in total strikeouts.

Sweeney has now earned three weekly Landmark Conference honors this spring.  In addition to her Player of the Week accolades in the last two weeks, she was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on April 9.

Sweeney and the Royals will open the double-elimination Landmark Conference championship tournament on Friday against third-seeded Susquehanna.  First pitch between the Royals and River Hawks is set for 1:00 p.m. at Moravian.
