After going back into the 2019-20 athletics year for some great moments, we've decided to dip back even further into the archives as our "Royals Rewind" segment continues! This week, we look back at the 2019 Landmark Conference Softball tournament, won by The University of Scranton Royals for the first time in program history.
Saturday, May 4th, 2019 is a day that anyone involved in the Scranton softball program will never forget.
Entering the day with a 1-1 record in the Landmark Conference tournament at top-seeded Moravian, Scranton needed to win not once, but three times on the day to capture their first-ever Landmark pennant.
And, sure enough, the Royals did just that, knocking off Moravian (9-6) before dispatching Susquehanna twice (5-2, 7-2) to win the championship as the number-four seed to clinch a bid into an NCAA Division III Tournament field for the first time since 1983.
Early last week, sports information director John Gatto was joined by Megan Zinn (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), Meaghan Dowdell (Parlin, N.J./Old Bridge), and Jennifer Sweeney (Wind Gap, Pa./Dumont) to recap the day in Bethlehem in May of 2019.
