Women’s Basketball Checks in at No. 25 in USA Today Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The University of Scranton women's basketball team will begin their 2015-16 season ranked 25th in the USA Today Division III Women's Basketball Top 25 Coaches' Poll, as the Preseason rankings were announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Scranton, who finished 18th in the Top 25 Coaches' Poll last season after a 24-4 season, garnered 22 total points to nab the 25th spot in the ranking.

They are also the only member of the Landmark Conference ranked in the poll, as rival Catholic received 19 votes in the initial rankings.

The Lady Royals, who are also receiving votes in the D3hoops.com preseason Top 25 Poll, will enter season led by first year head coach Trevor Woodruff, who took over the reigns of the program in August. Woodruff came to Scranton after a successful 11-year tenure as the men's basketball coach at nearby Misericordia.

In all, the Lady Royals return nine letterwinners from last seasons squad that garnered the program's third straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, which was also the teams 28th in the program's history.

The 2015-16 University of Scranton women's basketball team will open their season on Saturday, November 14 against the College of New Jersey in the DeSales Tournament. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
