It was a big week for junior forward Alexix Roman (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack), as the Lady Royals stayed unbeaten with three convincing victories, pushing their record to 10-0 on the year in the process.
For her efforts, Roman was named the Landmark Conference's Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the period ending December 20, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Roman, who has scored in double figures in all 10 games for Scranton on the 2015-16 season, led the Lady Royals in scoring in two of the their three victories on the week. This also marks the first time in her career she has earned Landmark Athlete of the Week honors.
First against Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, Roman scored a team-high 18 points and snatched 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Royals to a dominating 66-48 victory over the previously unbeaten Wildcats.
In the championship game of the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic against Eastern on Wednesday, Roman added 16 more points, as Scranton rolled to a 81-58 victory.
Finally on Sunday in Las Vegas against Emory & Henry, Roman matched a career-high with 30 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Scranton to a 86-57 victory in a game in which they never trailed. In the win, Roman shot 13-of-19 from the floor.
For the year, Roman is averaging 19.9 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per contest. She also has led the Lady Royals in scoring in eight of their first 10 games on the season, as well.
The University of Scranton women's basketball finishes off the nonconference portion of their schedule today at the Las Vegas Hoopla, as they take on Bridgewater beginning at 5 p.m. EST.
