Senior guard Noelle Alicea (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) picked the right time to hit the 20-point mark in a game for just the second time in her career on Saturday against Catholic, as she led the Lady Royals in the scoring department in an emphatic 78-57 victory in the 2016 Landmark Conference Championship game inside the John Long Center.
For Alicea's 20-point effort against the Cardinals, she has been named the University of Scranton's Athlete of the Week for the period ending Feb. 28., marking the first time the senior has captured the award in her career.
After scoring four points against Susquehanna in the Landmark Conference semifinals on Wednesday night, Alicea came out firing against Catholic, nailing three three-pointers in the first quarter to help Scranton take what turned out to be an insurmountable 33-24 lead after the first 10 minutes of action against the Cardinals.
From there, Alicea made two more three-pointers, went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, snatched five rebounds, and dished out four assists to lead Scranton to the Landmark Conference title, their fourth in program history and the 25th conference title all-time.
For the year, Alicea has started in all 27 games for the Lady Royals at guard, averaging 9.1 points per contest, while leading the team in steals with 60 for the year.
Alicea and rest of the third-ranked and 27-0 Lady Royals will find out what their placement will be in the upcoming 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament this afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
