The University of Scranton women's basketball team will get into the holiday spirit by hosting the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic on Friday and Saturday in the John Long Center.
The tournament will feature opening-round action on Friday night, with the first game featuring FDU-Florham (4-3) against 17th-ranked Messiah (8-0) at 6 p.m. Friday night's second game features Hartwick (1-4) against the 22nd-ranked Lady Royals (6-1) at 8 p.m.
Saturday's action begins with the third-place game at 2 p.m., followed by the championship game at 4 p.m.
Admission each day is $5 for adults (ages 18-61) and $3 for seniors (ages 62 and older) and students (ages 8-17). Children 7 and younger are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Students, faculty and staff with University of Scranton ID is also admitted free of charge.
The Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic has been a semi-annual event in the Long Center since 1977 when Villanova captured the inaugural title. The tournament was stopped in the mid-1990s, but was brought back in 2015 with the Lady Royals winning two of the three titles since then. This year's tournament is the 21st version of the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic, with Scranton aiming for its 14th title.
