Coming off their fourth consecutive Landmark Conference Championship and a Final Four appearance, The University of Scranton women's basketball team has been picked to repeat as Landmark Conference champions as announced by the league office on Thursday morning.
A year ago, the Lady Royals toppled Elizabethtown by a score of 68-48 in the conference championship game en route to their fourth consecutive title.
Scranton received seven first place votes and 70 total points, while the Blue Jays were tabbed second with one first place vote and 57 points. Moravian was selected third with 45 points and Catholic rounded out the top four with 41 points. The rest of the poll went as follows: Drew (24 points), Juniata (19), Susquehanna (16) and Goucher (7).
The Lady Royals return six of their top eight scorers from last year's 29-3 team and were ranked No. 3 in the D3Hoops.com and No. 5 in the WBCA Preseason polls that were released last week.

The reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Year, senior guard Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) was named a First Team Preseason All-American by D3Hoops.com after averaging 14.0 points per game and 7.6 rebounds to go along with 100 assists and 53 blocks a year ago. Mason was tops on the team in all four categories.
Other returnees include seniors Sofia Recupero (Whitestone, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep), Emily Sheehan (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) and Lily Warhaftig (Harlem, N.Y./Poly Prep) who all started 30 plus games for Scranton. Both Recupero and Sheehan earned All-Conference honors and Sheehan was named Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading the team with 40 steals. The Lady Royals allowed just 48.8 points per game as a team last season, a total that was the eighth best in all of Division III.
Scranton also adds four newcomers to the roster for this season.
The Lady Royals open the 2019-20 season against Ursinus as part of the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament on Friday, Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. The home opener is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 26 versus Marywood at 7 p.m.
