SCRANTON, Pa. – The No. 3 University of Scranton women's basketball team (5-0) used a big first half run and held Marywood (2-5) to 25.5% shooting from the floor in a 78-35 win over the Pacers on Tuesday night in the Lady Royals' home opener at John Long Center in Scranton.

Scranton has won all 38 meetings between the two teams.

Senior Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) led the Lady Royals with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while classmate Emily Sheehan (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) hit four threes en route to a 16-point night and freshman Bridget Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown Beard) added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting off the bench. Mason also contributed seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

This marks the third straight double-digit scoring output for Monaghan.

It is the second straight game that Scranton has held an opponent to under 26% shooting after they limited Wilkes to 19.1% shooting from the floor in Sunday's 78-42 win over the Colonels.

Emily Theobald paced Marywood with eight points on the night and the Lady Royals held leading scorer Aryah Aungst (16.8 ppg) to six points on 2-of-6 shooting.

The Pacers jumped out to an 8-0 lead out of the gates, but a three from Mason got Scranton on the board with 7:05 to play in the first quarter and ignited a 13-0 run over the remainder of the quarter capped by a triple from sophomore Emily Shurina (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow). A jumper from Aungst cut the lead to 15-10 with 8:20 left in the first half and the Lady Royals answered with a 19-4 run that included a trio of threes from Sheehan and junior guard Taylor Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) converted a three-point play to cap the run and make it a 34-14 game. Head coach Nick DiPillo's squad took a 39-16 advantage into the locker room after shooting 8-of-18 (44.4%) from beyond the arc in the first half.

Scranton held Marywood to just five points on 1-of-12 shooting (8.3%) in the third quarter and the duo of Mason and Monaghan combined for 13 points in the period. Freshman Kyra Quigley (Drexel Hill, Pa./Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr) hit a layup in the final minute of the quarter to stretch the lead to 63-21 after three. The two sides traded baskets for a majority of the fourth quarter and a Monaghan layup with 5:41 to play gave the Lady Royals their largest lead of the night at 71-27.

The Lady Royals were 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the floor and hit 11-of-28 (39.3%) from beyond the arc, while Marywood shot 14-of-55 (25.5%) from the field and 3-of-20 (15.0%) from deep.

Scranton held a 45-32 edge on the boards led by eight from senior Sofia Recupero (Whitestone, N.Y./Saint Francis Prep) and Mason's seven. Sophomore Danielle McCurdy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added six rebounds for the hosts.

Following a break for Thanksgiving, the University of Scranton women's basketball returns to action with a non-conference tilt at No. 8/9 DeSales on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.
