Freshman guard Bridget Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) scored a career-high 21 points in Saturday's 61-48 win at Elizabethtown and was named Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
This is the first Landmark weekly award for Monaghan and she is the second Scranton player to receive the honor after senior guard Emily Sheehan (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) won Athlete of the Week on Dec. 23.
Monaghan averaged 17.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Lady Royals. The Florham Park, N.J., native notched her career-best 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting including a 3-of-5 performance from beyond the arc and also added six rebounds in the game. Earlier in the week, Monaghan tallied 14 points and three steals in a 64-53 win over Drew on Wednesday.
On the week, Monaghan shot 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the floor and 5-of-7 (71.4%) from three-point range.
Monaghan has reached double figures in 12 of her 19 games and is averaging 9.6 points per game, 3.1 rpg and 2.5 apg on the season.
The Lady Royals hit the road to battle Susquehanna in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
