Senior Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) of The University of Scranton women's basketball team and senior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) of The University of Scranton wrestling team have been named Co-Scranton Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 1 after their outstanding performances over the weekend.
Mason was named Landmark Conference Tournament MVP after recording a double-double in both games of the conference tournament and the Lady Royals captured their fifth straight Landmark Conference crown with a 63-42 victory over Catholic on Saturday. Mason had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the win as the Lady Royals sealed the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament with the victory and the field of 64 will be announced on Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The selection show will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
Connelly punched his ticket to the 2020 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships by finishing second in the 285-pound bracket at the NCAA Mideast Regionals that were hosted by Ithaca College over the weekend. The Schnecksville, Pa., native qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 3-2 win by decision over Cortland's Trentyn Rupert. Connelly is the 13th wrestler in program history to qualify for NCAAs after Dan D'Agostini became the first Royal since 2007 to qualify a season ago.
The 2020 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships will be held on March 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
