DALLAS, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's golf team opened its 2018-19 season by posting match play victories over both Misericordia and Wilkes on Saturday afternoon at Irem Temple Country Club.
The Royals (2-0) defeated Misericordia, 4-1, and Wilkes, 3-1, to open the season in successful fashion. Sophomore Catherine Shin (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and freshman Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) both posted wins in each match to lead the way.
Shin was an 8 & 7 winner in both matches while playing at the no. 2 spot in the lineup. Nemitz played at no. 3 and matched Shin by also posting a pair of 8 & 7 victories.
Against Misericordia, the Royals also got a 4 & 3 win from freshman Molly Lennon (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) at no. 4 while freshman Gabriele Hanstein (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) was a 2-up winner at no. 5.
In the win over Wilkes, Scranton also received a 7 & 5 win from junior Brianna Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) at no. 1.
The women's golf team will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 20, when the Royals host Keystone at 1 p.m. at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
