Women’s Golf Tabbed Third in Landmark Conference Preseason Poll

The University of Scranton women's golf team has been predicted to finish this in the Landmark Conference this spring according to a preseason poll of the league's eight head coaches.  The Royals garnered 43 points in the balloting after placing fourth a last spring's Landmark Conference Championships. 

Drew was selected at the 2019 Landmark Conference preseason favorite after totaling 70 points and picking up seven first place votes in this year's poll.  The Rangers were the conference's runner-up last spring. Catholic came in second in the balloting with 47 points and one first place vote to sit four points ahead of the Royals.

Defending Landmark champion Marywood came in fourth in the poll with 38 points while Susquehanna was picked fifth with 26 points.  Goucher totaled 21 points to place sixth, Juniata was seventh with 16 points, and Elizabethtown rounded out the poll in eighth place with 11 points.

Last spring, Scranton finished fourth at the Landmark Conference Championships with a two-day score of 833 under head coach Ed Karpovich, who is back to lead the program in its third year of competition.

Junior Brianna Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), who earned Second Team All-Conference honors last spring, is the top returner for the Royals after finishing tied for ninth at the Landmark Conference Championships.

Freshman Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) posted a team-best 86.3 scoring average for Scranton in stroke play and was 5-0 in match play in the fall semester. Stein averaged 90.0 strokes per round with a pair of match play wins

Freshman Molly Lennon (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) posted a 91.0 scoring percentage in the fall and was 4-1 in match play.  Senior Maggie McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) went 3-0 in match play and had a 95.3 scoring average in stroke play while senior Maura McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) had a 97.0 scoring average.

Scranton, which went a perfect 8-0 during the fall semester, is slated to open the spring portion of its schedule with a dual match against Keystone on Tuesday, April 2 at Stonehedge Golf Course in Tunkhannock.

The 2019 Landmark Conference Championships will be held Saturday-Sunday, April 27-28, at the Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, N.J.
