BRANCHBURG, N.J. – The University of Scranton women's golf team combined for a 405 in the opening round of the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday at the Fox Hollow Golf Club. The Royals enter Sunday's final round in fifth place out of eight teams in the tournament.
Senior Maura McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) paced Scranton on the day with a round of 97 to sit in 12th place out of 40 golfers at the mid-point of the championship tournament.
Freshman Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) and senior Maggie McDonough (Dunmore, Pa./Holy Cross) both finished their opening rounds in 101 strokes on the par-71 course to enter Sunday's round tied for 14th place.
Junior Brianna Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and freshman Molly Lennon (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) both recorded scores of 106 on Saturday to sit in a tie for 23rd place in the competition.
Drew leads the hunt for the conference championship after carding a 366 on Saturday, 11 strokes ahead of second place Catholic (387). Goucher is in third place with an opening round 388 while Susquehanna sits fourth, three strokes ahead of Scranton, with a 402.
Drew's Lucy Lamb is the individual leader after checking in with a 79 on Saturday, holding an 11-stroke advantage over second place Tess Murphy of Catholic, who shot a 90 in the first round.
The final round of the Landmark Conference Championships is slated to tee off at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Fox Hollow Golf Club.
