Freshman Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) of The University of Scranton women's golf team used a strong final round on Sunday at the Landmark Conference Championships to tie for 12th in the tournament. With the result, Nemitz earned a spot on the Second Team All-Landmark Conference squad which was announced on Wednesday.
Nemitz posted on opening round score of 101 on Saturday at the Fox Hollow Golf Club in Branchburg, N.J. to sit in a tie for 14th place at the midpoint of the 36-hole tournament. The following day, she improved her score by nine strokes, carding a 92 for a 36-hole total of 193 on the par 72, 5,866-yard layout.
That score lifted Nemitz into a tie for 12th place out of 40 golfers in the weekend tournament which secured her a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. Her result also helped the Royals to a sixth place finish out of eight teams in the field as Scranton posted a two-day score of 794.
Wednesday's award capped an outstanding rookie season for Nemitz, who was named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week on Monday. The freshman led Scranton with a 91.4 scoring average in the 2018-19 season.
Nemitz, who also went a perfect 6-0 in match play action this season, recorded her low round of the on April 22, carding an 83 to lead Scranton to a 357-391 win over Misericordia at the Glenmaura National Golf Club on April 22.
Nemitz and the Royals went 13-2 in dual matches this year, posting the most wins in the program's three-year history.
