Senior Brianna Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) of The University of Scranton women's golf team put together one of the best rounds of her career on Saturday vs. Misericordia in the team's 2019-20 season opener and for her efforts, she was named the Landmark's Conference's Athlete of the Week for women's golf on Monday.
For Stein, this marks the second time in her career that she has nabbed Athlete of the Week honors from the Landmark, as she previously earned the award on Sept. 15, 2018.
On Saturday, Stein fired an 83 at Scranton Municipal Golf Course, matching a career-low hit last season, as she led the Royals to a commanding 351-374 win over the visiting Cougars. Stein's round was also the lowest of the day between the two squads, besting a Misericordia player by one shot to earn medalist honors.
Stein's round was also tied for the lowest in the brief history of the program, as she now has hit the mark twice in her career and joins teammate sophomore Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) for the lowest round in program history. Stein's score was also the lowest ever shot at Scranton Muni by a Royals women's golfer, as well.
The University of Scranton women's golf team is idle until Sept. 21, as they take on Marywood at Scranton Muni. Tee-off is set for 12 p.m.
