DALLAS, Pa. – Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored a career-high seven goals to lift The University of Scranton to a 12-10 victory at Misericordia in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon.
Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) added two goals and an assist while Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) recorded a goal and two assists to go along with a team-leading six draw controls as the Royals improved to 2-0 on the young season with the victory.
Misericordia (1-2) jumped out a to a 3-1 lead over the first five minutes of Tuesday's contest before Scranton rallied with the final three goals of the opening half to hold a 4-3 edge at halftime.
The Royals' run continued in the second stanza as the visitors netted six of the first seven goals of the period to hold a 10-4 advantage midway through the half. The Cougars countered with four straight tallies to cut their deficit to 10-8 with 9:36 remaining.
Rogers tallied back-to-back goals to give Scranton a 12-8 lead with 4:49 showing on the clock before the hosts closed out the scoring with the final two goals.
Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) made eight saves in net for the Royals, who also received goals from Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers).
Claire Eberle (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) tied for a game-high with five ground balls on the afternoon while Calabro paced the Royals with three caused turnovers.
Scranton will travel to Haverford on Saturday for a non-conference game starting at 1:00 p.m.
