Junior Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) filled up opponents' nets with goals in a pair of games last week for The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team. For her efforts, she has been named the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Gallo scored 11 goals as the Royals went 1-1 on the week with a key Landmark Conference victory over Elizabethtown.
In a 14-11 setback at Oneonta on Wednesday, the junior attack recorded a hat trick while picking up two ground balls, one draw control, and one caused turnover.
Gallo followed up that performance with a career-high eight goals to lead Scranton to a 19-13 victory over Elizabethtown on Saturday at Fitzpatrick Field. Gallo, who potted her 100th career goal in the win over the Blue Jays, tied for the third-most goals in a game in program history. She went 4-for-5 on free-position shots and added a ground ball and a caused turnover in the win.
For the season, Gallo paces Scranton with 47 points on 43 goals and four assists to go along with 12 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
Gallo and the Royals will return to the field on Wednesday when they host Drew in a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 4:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
