The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team was voted to finish second in the 2019 Landmark Conference preseason poll, which was released by the conference office this morning. The poll was voted on by the conference's eight head coaches.
Topping the poll is defending Landmark Conference champion Catholic, who garnered 70 points in the rankings. Scranton comes in at second with 58 points, followed by Moravian (46 points) and Drew (31 points), who round out the top four.

The Royals, who will be led by first year head coach Chrissy Trescavage in 2019, come into the year off three straight Landmark Conference championship game appearances.
In 2018, Scranton finished the year with a 12-7 overall mark and a 6-1 record in the Landmark Conference, and coming into 2019, several strong pieces from that team will be making their return to the field.
Overall, five All-Landmark Conference selections are back for Scranton - seniors Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers), juniors Kate Calabro (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor), and sophomore Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Calabro (who was also the Landmark's Rookie of the Year), Russo, Gallo, and Olert were all First Team All-Landmark selections, as the trio of Russo, Calabro and Gallo were all named to the IWLCA All-Boardwalk Region team after the season, as well.
On the offensive end, Scranton's top three goal scorers from 2018 return this season, with Gallo leading the way after scoring 61 goals and totaling 69 points last season. Gallo's 61-goal season was the sixth best in a season in program history, as well. Meanwhile, Calabro looks to build off an impressive rookie season in which she ranked second on the Royals' scoring chart with 56 points on 25 goals and a team-leading 31 assists. She also led the squad with 112 draw controls and 32 caused turnovers while scooping up 40 ground balls.
Defensively, Russo leads the way after collecting 54 ground balls last year and creating 30 caused turnovers. In net, junior Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) returns after making 33 starts over the last two seasons. An All-Landmark Conference pick in 2017, Putnam made 139 saves in 2018, posting 10 or more saves in six games last year.
The Royals' 2019 schedule will open on Saturday, February 16, as Scranton will play their first game ever on Weiss Field at the Kevin P. Quinn, S.J. Athletics Campus against perennial power Messiah.
The clash with Messiah will be the first of nine games throughout the Spring that Scranton will play on Weiss Field, as Landmark Conference foes Susquehanna (Mar. 23), Catholic (Apr. 13), and Moravian (Apr. 27) will come to Scranton this season.
