Sophomore Raegen Dunn (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and junior Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) were named the Landmark Conference's Offensive and Defensive Athlete's of the Week, respectively, for women's lacrosse on Monday afternoon.
The pair earned this week's honor from the Landmark after leading the Royals to a dominating 22-7 win over 16th-ranked Messiah on Saturday in Scranton's 2019 season opener.
Dunn, who earns the Landmark Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in her career, posted the best game of her young career at Scranton on Saturday, leading the offense with seven total points by scoring four goals and adding three assists.
Three of Dunn's goals came in the second half as Scranton pulled further and further away from Messiah, while two of her three assists also coming in the final 30 minutes of regulation. Entering the season, Dunn had recorded just four total points for her career (three goals, one assist), appearing in six games during her freshman campaign of 2018.
Russo, meanwhile, picked up where she left off last year with her performance in leading the defense in the Royals' win Saturday.
Earning Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week accolades for the first time on Monday, Russo had four caused turnovers, five ground balls, and four draw controls in the win over Messiah, while also recording an assist on the offensive end. In all, Russo and the Royals' defense forced 23 Messiah turnovers on the day, as the visiting Falcons took just 15 shots on the day.
Dunn, Russo and the rest of The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Kean for a road non-conference contest. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
